Mission Statement

To significantly reduce domestic violence and adult sexual assault through education, intervention, and treatment.

Description

In 1975, TESSA (formerly known as The Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence) was conceptualized in response to community volunteers' alarm at the frequency of calls from women threatened or assaulted by their intimate partners. At the time, domestic violence was considered a private matter and few resources were available to help victims. Research conducted through the Colorado Springs Police Department documented a high incidence of spousal assault in the community. As a result, in May 1977, with help from the District Attorney and El Pomar Foundation, our agency was established as a referral service. This initial effort to provide information to victims of abuse has grown into an award-winning agency dedicated to the intervention in and prevention of family violence.

I wish I would of used this organization, I was in a very abusive relationship and was too scared. Also it's hard to leave those situations and women always go back, and I thought it was love. I finally left him and now one of my passions is to stop domestic violence, help these women get thru this. It has to be very difficult to help these battered women and you can only help those who want help, but if you can help one person it make it all worth it. I am very independent now and would never ever let a man abuse me physically or mentally. I learned to love myself. I made a vow to myself to help this organization when I could. No one deserves to be abused. I'm such a stronger women and want to help other women too. I wish I went and used the services provided but it all worked out. Women love yourself enough to know you deserve better and it's out there!
