Description
On November 20, 2011, our Cousin Nicholas V. Messmer passed away, at 15 years young, from a tragic gun hunting accident. What the Family took away from the event was that if one of the guns used, had been unloaded, Nicholas would still be with us today.
Some of Nicholas’s Cousins decided to start a non-profit charity called the Nicholas V. Messmer Foundation. We are a Non-Profit that promotes Hunter Education, Safety, and Training. The board members, and our volunteers feel strongly that the safest gun is an unloaded gun, and we try to remind people of that every day. If we feel that we can save just one life by reminding people to check and double check to ensure their gun is unloaded, we feel that we have done our job.
Our foundation has another goal as well. Nicholas wanted to be a Conservation Officer when he grew up. His Family told us that Nicholas wanted to go tromp through the woods and be able to carry a gun and arrest people, and his family pushed him to do well in school and become a Conservation Officer. Our Foundation’s second goal is to provide scholarships to anybody who wishes to continue their education towards working in the conservation arts.
