Description

ALLIES, Inc. is a not-for-profit entity incorporated in the State of Maine. ALLIES provides services in Penobscot, Hancock, Aroostook, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo, Washington, Cumberland, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, and Sagadahoc Counties. The objective of all ALLIES programs is to help individuals find and keep community based housing and employment, which is suited to their interests, and appropriate to their knowledge, skills and abilities. The majority of our client base consists of individuals with disabilities of any kind including physical disabilities, mental illness, traumatic brain injury, learning disabilities, hearing and vision problems and mental retardation. We also work with other people who have difficulty in finding and keeping employment.

Our funders include: MaineCare, DHHS, U.S. Department of Education and BRS. We believe that an active partnership with area employers is essential for our success and continued growth. To ensure such collaboration, we have formed Business Partnership Councils (BPC) in every location in the State of Maine where we operate programs. We work with BPC members to maximize employment opportunities for clients, to ensure that our clients meet local labor market expectations and that we satisfy our three customers: the funding agencies who fund our operations, the clients we serve and the businesses who employ our clients.

Services to clients include assistance to access community resources and supports, therapy, training in job seeking skills and job development, placement and post placement support to ensure job retention and success. Services to employers include screening of candidates to ensure that only qualified and interested individuals are recommended for job openings (which reduces employee turnover), access to training programs such as Situational Assessment, On-The Job Training and Transitional Employment Programs (TEP), (which guarantees completion of specified tasks for limited periods of time at no cost to the employer), information about programs and resources on ADA, job accommodations, tax benefits in hiring people with disabilities, and support at the job site and off the site to ensure that the employee continues to be able to perform his or her job to industry standards.
