Mission Statement

AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Authorized in 1964 and founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993. VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 45 years.

HandsOn Greater Phoenix is a non-profit organization that has been creating positive change locally for twenty years. We plan, manage and facilitate community volunteer opportunities for corporations, groups and individuals that are interested in giving back. On average, we manage more than 1,600 volunteer projects each year to support 400 nonprofits, schools and neighborhoods.

Description

Our Summer Associates program will be a short-term, direct service opportunity for 18-24 year olds to work alongside Boys & Girls Club, City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation, and Mesa Public Schools staff in leading youth in educational activities to keep them engaged over the summer and prevent learning loss. Each of the roles at these sites will vary slightly, but all of our members will be providing direct-service support for summer youth enrichment programming. The monthly stipend is $946 per month before taxes; members can choose between a $1,174.60 Eli Segal AmeriCorps Education Award from the National Service Trust or a $250 summer stipend. The program runs from June 3 - July 26, 2013. Applications are available now!
