Mission Statement

Faith in Place inspires religious people of diverse faiths to care for the Earth through education, connection, and advocacy.

Description

Faith in Place is a twenty-year-old nonprofit with a long and successful history of inspiring positive environmental behavior change in partnership with religious communities. Faith in Place was founded in 1999 (incorporated in 2003) in Chicago, IL, where the main office and majority of our outreach work continues to happen. We also have outreach staff working in Champaign, rural Central and Southern Illinois, and Waukegan, where they interact with diverse faith partners in those geographic areas. As a result, Faith in Place has partnered with more than 1,000 worshipping bodies of all faith traditions from every corner of Illinois - Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Unitarian Universalist, and Zoroastrian - to educate, connect, and advocate around the teachings of their faith for living out practices of better Earth care.

Unity of purpose emerges from an astounding diversity of beliefs and belief systems within our partner organization network. This mission is implemented through four program areas at partner congregations: 1) energy and climate change; 2) water preservation; 3) sustainable land and food; and 4) environmental advocacy.
