RightRides For Women's Safety's mission is to create safer communities by reducing the risk of harassment and sexual assault. We accomplish this by offering direct service and educational, violence-prevention programs.
The primary program, RightRides, offers women and transpeople a free, safe, late night ride to their homes to reduce their risk of harassment and sexual assault as they commute to or through high-risk areas.
RightRides and the organization were founded in August 2004 in direct response to an increase in assaults on women walking home alone late at night in Williamsburg and Greenpoint in North Brooklyn . Since then, RightRides has driven over 1,000 riders home and currently operates every Saturday night from 11:59 PM to 3 AM throughout 35 neighborhoods. We depend on volunteers, donations and community support to sustain and grow this service!
Other programs we organize include a free Safe Walk program for any one who would like to have a safe walking escort to their destination, plus neighborhood "Town Hall" safety meetings. These meetings feature a panel of local leaders in crime prevention who discuss street safety, crime trends, offer resources and feature engaging Q&A sessions.
