Mission Statement
The mission of the Sandwich Natural Resources Department is to manage town conservation lands and open spaces to fulfill the town goals of improving public access to open spaces and recreation areas while protecting Sandwich's unique natural features to maintain biological diversity and preserve the Town's scenic character.
Description
The Natural Resources Department administers the daily workload of the Conservation Commission, acts as the Community Preservation Committee contact and negotiator and is entrusted with developing and implementing conservation land management strategies, (including trail development & wildlife habitat diversification); enforcing the Town Wetlands Bylaw, Wetlands Protection Act; shellfish management; alewife (herring) run development and management; oil spill response; enforcing other environmental laws and regulations including shellfishing; fishing; hunting; trapping; illegal dumping; and animal control.
