Mission Statement

To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special olympics athletes and the community.

Description

Special Olympics is one of the largest volunteer-driven sports organization in the state. Statewide SO serves 37,000 athletes, with Alamance serving around 500. Alamance County offers 12 sports: Aquatics, adaptive events, basketball, bocce, bowling, cycling, track and field, motor ativities, cheerleading, golf, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
