AVID is an international program that provides students with an academic curriculum to prepare them for college. The AVID program at Utt Middle School is dedicated to the mission of AVID, "to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success for a global society." We are searching for volunteers eager to work with our middle school AVID students 2 hours weekly to assist with the tutorial aspect of the AVID curriculum. As a volunteer, you will be initially trained in the tutorial process used in AVID, which largely incorporates a questioning strategy to engage all learners in the small group.
As a tutor, you will be working closely with a group of 3-6 well-mannered middle school students in a particular subject area. Students are grouped based on their needs in social studies, math, or science. The tutors main responsibility is to engage students in questioning to assist them in discovering the answer to their questions. Volunteering with our AVID program is a great opportunity for anyone interested in exploring a career in education.
