Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Emergency Medical Services Marine Rescue Dive Team is to administer a program which provides for the immediate response and timely arrival of a specially trained and equipped Dive Team, to respond to requests for rescues involving Drownings, Near-Drownings or Water Related Rescues involving swimmers or boaters.

We deliver valued services to the community that preserve life, improve health, and promote the safety of citizens and visitors, who live, learn, work and play in our community while maintaining a sustainable systems approach that is focused on dynamic resource utilization to enhance the overall quality of life in Virginia Beach

Description

The Marine Rescue Dive Team applies special procedures and search techniques for locating and removing patients from any and all water hazards, and provide additional assistance to BLS and ALS personnel when necessary according to medical and operational protocol. As a member of the Tidewater Regional Underwater Search and Rescue Team, this team continues to excel resulting in requests by regional, state and national organizations for assistance. Just to name a few such requests as the Flight TWA 800 crash on July 1996 and the search for John F. Kennedy Jr. Piper Saratoga off the east coast on July 1999.
