Mission Statement

By empowering Southern queer youth and building community through music,
QORDS is a vehicle for expressing gender and sexuality, and harbors an
environment of self-discovery and social change.

Description

This is a week-long overnight summer camp for queer youth or youth of queer
parents, with special focus on youth in the South. Young people ages 12-17
form bands and write songs to perform at the end of the week. They also
attend workshops on issues related to creative expression, gender identity,
and sexual orientation. This summer camp will be held June 15-20 at Warren Wilson College, Swannanoa, NC.
General Information
This organization is operated by queer-identified folks and supported by
LGBTQI allies. Sample camp days might include: band/rap practice, workshop
on art and activism, deejaying workshop, archery, a dance party, a
performance by guest musicians, self defense class, workshop on the art of
drag performance, discussion and panel on gender identity and expression,
use of a climbing wall, board games, and more!
