Mission Statement

Children cannot learn to read without reading material!

First Book is a national non profit organization with a single mission: to give children in need the opportunity to read and own their first new books. Local Advisory Board #97 implements this mission locally in Orange County, New York.

Description

Our goal is to help erase illiteracy in Orange County youth. We identify local youth programs that serve children-in need that address these literacy concerns, and provide book grants for colorful shinny new childrens books. Selected programs receive new childrens books for their youth throughout the year. We also have recognized the need to reach out to children who are often underserved, and overlooked and make a special effort to provide books to them as well. Our Advisory Board is made up of committed dedicated volunteers who have successfully donated over 25,000 books enriching youth in the community.
