Mission Statement

The Rye Historical Society's mission is to educate the public about the many facets of the cultural history of the Rye New York area.

Description

The Society operates two nationally landmarked buildings, the Square House Museum and Knapp House Archives. The Square House Museum, c. 1730, is interpreted as a tavern along the Boston Post Road where such notables as George Washington, John Adams and Lafayette visited. In addition to getting a tour of period rooms, visitors can view changing exhibits. The Knapp House Archives, c. 1670, is believed to be the oldest residential structure in Westchester County. It houses the Society's extensive archival holdings, including maps, photographs, and manuscripts.

The Society also offers a variety of educational programs for every audience from preschoolers to seniors throughout the year.
