Mission Statement

The Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library provides an opportunity for teachers, students, and the general public from the metropolitan Kansas City area and across Kansas to pursue science. Students from elementary to college can engage in research related to the environment as well as life, earth, and physical sciences.

Description

The Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library is one of the five branches of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library system and is located within Wyandotte County Lake park. It houses a collection of books for all ages focused on science, nature and the environment that can be checked out with a Kansas City, Kansas Public Library card. The Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library also serves as educational resources for Unified School District 500 of Kansas City, Kansas as well as surrounding districts. The staff of educators presents all types of science and nature programs to K-12 students who come out on field trips as well as heading into classrooms to present outreach experiences. The Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library presents weekend public programming, Spring Break and Summer day camps, and holds a wide variety of public Special Events throughout the year including our annual Eagle Day Celebration and Butterfly Festival. This facility is free to visit and is open to the public Monday - Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.
