Mission Statement

The Old Court House Civil War Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The museum is directed by a board of supervisors and a manager. The museum works to promote the understanding of the American Civil War and its impact on soldiers and the people of Winchester and Frederick County.

Description

The Old Court House Civil War Museum is located in Downtown Winchester on the Walking Mall. The courthouse functioned as a hospital and prison during the American Civil War and now stands as a monument of rememberance for those who lived and died during the Civil War era. The exhibits include original graffiti left behind by the prisoners, the old courtroom, buttons, buckles, artillery, personal artifacts, guns, period photographs, and the historic building itself.
