Mission Statement

Achievement First schools are public charter schools focused on strengthening the academic and character skills needed for all students to excel in top tier colleges, to achieve success in a competitive world, and to serve as the next generation of leaders for our communities.

Description

Achievement First is a nonprofit 501(c)3 charter school management organization established in July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high-performing charter school in New Haven, CT. Achievement First is creating a network of achievement gap-closing charter schools, to bring to scale the dramatic, life-changing student achievement results produced at Amistad Academy. Achievement First currently operates schools in New Haven, CT and started its New York expansion by opening two additional schools in September 2005 in Brooklyn, NY. The organization is working to open two more schools in September 2006, and is looking to bring on board new members to support community involvement, student recruitment efforts, and policy and governance aides, as our network of urban preparatory schools expands into several Brooklyn neighborhoods.
