The Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County (CAC) unites public, private and community partners to promote safety, healing and justice for child victims and their families.
Helping abused children and their families requires an approach that addresses the physical, emotional and legal dimensions of abuse. And it requires a coordinated response from expert professionals to reduce stress throughout the investigation and intervention process.
The Children's Advocacy Center works in partnership with over 25 agencies to provide:
- Crisis intervention, team investigations, forensic interviews, risk assessment & safety planning, specialized medical and mental health services, assessment for prosecution, and victim support & advocacy;
- Interdisciplinary training about child abuse to promote the highest professional standards of practice for all who work with children;
- Outreach and education to deepen the community’s understanding of child abuse and to invite community participation in caring forSuffolkCounty’s children at risk.
The CAC gives children who have experienced violence a safe place to talk about it and get help.
It is clear that no single agency has the resources necessary to provide all of the services that families need. But we can make every effort to ensure that children receive the best possible care.The key is compassion & coordination: The CAC combines the efforts of police officers, child protection social workers, medical and mental health professionals, prosecutors, victim witness advocates, domestic violence professionals and others to address the safety and service needs of each child and family, and to hold offenders accountable.
