Program Summary: We are looking for a volunteer, or small group of volunteers, to facilitate a Shabbat service on Friday afternoons. Exact time varies by campus: Brighton @ 1:15pm, Golda @ 4:30pm, Shillman @ 3:45pm, and Coleman @ 4pm. Most services last 45 min. Location(s): Multiple locations are available - volunteer will be assigned to one campus of their preference. Key Responsibilities: Prepare in advance content for the service including songs and prayer (A modified siddur will be provided). Lead the service each week guiding residents to participate in the Shabbat songs and prayers. Foster a sense of community among residents who attend. Impact Goal: The volunteer will support residents to connect to their spirituality and gather as a community for a Shabbat service. Qualifications: Volunteer must be 16 years and older for this position Comfortable working with older adults Experience leading a Jewish prayer service and comfortable facilitating Able to respond to the needs of the Shabbat group Open to serving an egalitarian group and fostering a welcoming environment. We hope for this group to be welcome to both experienced or new crafters. We are searching for volunteers who are able to teach basic skills to new members, enjoy crafting groups, and have a desire to work with older adults. Locations: Brighton Campus: 30 Wallingford Rd, Brighton, MA 02134 Key responsibilities: Facilitate a weekly knitting or crochet group Teach residents who may need help getting started Socialize with residents and foster a welcoming environment for community. Impact Goal: The goal of art programming is to promote social connection for residents, and to provide opportunity for creativity and expression. Qualifications: 14 years of age or older Some experience either knitting or crocheting Willingness to help, flexibility, and patience Reliability Bilingual in Russian or Spanish strongly preferred but not required Time Commitment/Schedule: Once a week, 1 hour shifts on weekday afternoons or evenings. We are searching for a volunteer who enjoys coloring, socializing with others, and has a desire to work with older adults. Locations: Golda Meir House, 160 Standon Ave, Newton, MA 02466 Key responsibilities: Facilitate the weekly coloring group, with flexibility that participation may vary. Encourage residents to participate and socialize with residents who attend Impact Goal: The goal of art programming is to promote social connection for residents, and to provide opportunity for creativity and expression. Program Summary: 2Life is looking for a volunteer to teach weekly fitness classes for residents at the Brighton Campus! For older adults, exercise is an essential activity that has a profound impact on the quality of their life. Fitness classes consist of 5 segments: a warm up, balance component, free hand weights, cardio, and a cool down. The goal is to improve aerobic capacity, flexibility, and muscle strength. For residents who are frail or compromised there is the option to exercise seated in chairs. Location: Brighton Campus: 30 Wallingford Rd Brighton, MA 02135 Key responsibilities: Memorize and learn the exercise class routine. Volunteers would shadow fitness staff to be trained. Facilitate and teach the fitness class independently Take attendance Assist residents with proper form Impact Goal: Physical activity is one of the most important things 2Life residents can do for their health. It helps improve strength and balance to keep doing your day to day activities, and prevents or delays diseases. For many, fitness activities and health workshops are also opportunities to reduce social isolation. Qualifications: Background in fitness or experience teaching fitness classes preferred Strong leadership and independence to facilitate the group Comfortable working with older adults Friendly and welcoming attitude Bilingual in Russian, Mandarin, or Cantonese preferred, but not required Schedule/Time Commitment: Flexible schedule -- just 1 hour a week during business hours (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm).
