The HVHS has cared for abused, abandoned and unwanted animals since 1891.

Description

The HVHS is a private animal welfare organization and receivs no government funding. Founded in 1891, the HVHS has undergone 3 relocations before finding its permanent home on approximately 5 acres in Pomona. The HVHS embraced a "no-kill" philosophy nearly 20 years ago and continues to help protect abused, neglected and unwanted animals.

The HVHS provides sheltering and adoption service, humane law enforcement, pet therapy, education and community service events.

The HVHS provides humane law enforcment with its 7 volunteer agents. The HVHS HLE unit responds on average to approximately 100 complaints annually. By definition, humane law enforcement is the basis for the founding of all SPCA organizations and for the HVHS that began 120 years ago.

By law and by charter, the HVHS is the only non-police organization that can provide humane law enforcement in Rockland County.
