Mission Statement

We will cure MS while empowering people affected by MS to live their best lives.

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services to people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and fifty-state network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. The Mid America Chapter serves 159 counties in Kansas and Missouri.

Seeking out and engaging volunteers to the MS cause is at the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers two key fundraising activities: Bike MS, and Walk MS Walk. The Society also engages volunteers to help influence law-makers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as: marketing communications, public relations, corporate and donor development, medical, legal, administrative and organizational expertise.

I enjoyed working with everyone at the National MS Society - Mid America Chapter. I volunteered every weekday from April 28th through May 23rd from 8:30am to 12:30pm. They were very flexible with volunteering hours and were grateful to have help. I helped with answering phones, hand written thank you cards, mail processing, event setup and coordination, placed thank you phone calls for Walk MS team donations, helped secure vendors for Bike MS and Dinner of Champions along with office organization. Everyone at the MS society was very nice and easy to work with. There were multiple volunteers that also helped during my time at the MS society and they were great too! The only reason I left was to go back to school in a different city. I plan to connect with the MS Society in the new city. Great opportunity to familiarize yourself with non profit organizations, meet new people and make a difference in your community!

This is a fantastic place to volunteer. Everyone is so nice and helpful. They even have treats once in a while. The projects I have been given have been really interesting and the staff is really great at explaining everything that needs to be done. They are very appreciative of everything I do for them and all of the volunteers are very pleasent to me and we all work well together. The events that take place for the society are a lot of fun and I really enjoy attending them and visiting with the clients. I have a nephew and 2 cousins who have MS and the society is a real asset to them and their families. They offer a wide variety of help and activities for all of their clients. If you are looking for a great place to volunteer with a rewarding outcome, I would recommend the MS Society!!!!!

It took a long time to get through the application process. I felt like my time there was unappreciated and they were unorganized. Most volunteers I saw during my time only lasted about a week or two. One older lady was put on an assignment where they had her copying for about 6 hours: She lasted only 2 days. It is a shame because MS needs to be wiped out.
