Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
We believe every child should be given a chance to be successful. We further believe that community volunteers; working as academic mentors and tutors, together with the school districts will provide free assistance to children struggling in school the opportunity to improve academically and become successful lifelong learners. It is our mission to give every child a chance!
To qualify, students must be receiving a below-passing grade (e.g., D or F, S- or N) in a core subject, be in Special Education/Resource classes or be in danger of failing and referred by a teacher.
Upon satisfactory completion of the program with
passing grades, students can continue for another
semester as a Graduate Guests working on their own or become Tutor-Mentors themselves to younger students in need as they once were.
Volunteer tutor-mentors work one-on-one with their students and are the heart of GECAC. The most unique aspect of the program is that our volunteers range in age from 5th graders to adults of all ages!
All volunteers are required to attend training with the program staff prior to being placed with a
student. Any volunteer over 18 years of age must be fingerprinted and receive clearance from the
Department of Justice prior to being a tutor-mentor.
