Mission Statement

National Farmers Market Association works for people -- especially families, veterans and senior citizens -- to provide community supports for education about and access to affordable, healthy foods. Because markets can set up and break down in a day in a diverse range of areas, we base our mission and vision for community outreach through farmers market participation.

Description

NFMA was formed to provide community supports for education about and access to affordable, healthy foods through farmers’ market participation. NFMA seeks to educate people across economic, educational, social and geographical barriers about the impact that available and affordable fresh food can have on health and quality of life, as well as the foundation it can provide for strong and active communities and neighborhoods. NFMA is beginning to operate with volunteers that reach out especially to educate youth, families, veterans and senior citizens about the importance of fresh food in healthy living and how to access such even with limited incomes; connect people to farmers markets within reach; and help food desert communities learn how to get farmers markets into their areas. Through community connections, volunteers become the educators in cities, towns and rural areas across the country, sharing the latest news, tools and resources to help people participate in making a healthier life where they live possible. NFMA received its nonprofit status in November 2011. Currently, NFMA is focused on four key activities: developing our programmatic strategy; implementing programs; expanding the NFMA network of partners, volunteers and supporters; and fundraising. NFMA has developed five programs which will serve as the programmatic base of the organization and will address the mission of the organization through various outlets, media and constituency bases.
