Description
Community Food Connections is a statewide 501 c 3 organization that was established in 2002. It has a successful track record in implementing a three-pronged approach to alleviate hunger and create food self-sufficiency for low-income households through community and economic development. 1) CFC has been integrally involved in developing the resources for and implementing the Arizona Farmers? Market Nutrition Program (AZ FMNP). It has also established the EBT (food stamps) at Farmers? Market projects in our state. 2) To build self-reliant local and regional food systems, CFC has organized the Arizona Food Policy Coalition and is working with regional and national food security organizations, as well as with local food policy councils in Tucson and northern Arizona to create long-term food system policy, programs and planning. 3) By implementing the Downtown Phoenix Public Market and Farm to Cafeteria, which supports school food services to purchase and serve locally-produced foods, CFC has expanded economic and community development activities that improve the overall quality of life, create healthier choices for Arizona households, and help support local communities and rural economies.
