Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
To educate, entertain and enlighten visitors about the history and heritage of rural Texas education and the local community, during the turn-of-the-last-century. Our primary focus is to retain the heritage and life experiences of the pioneers in our community and their educational experience in a typical Texas One Room Schoolhouse during this timeframe.
The West Bay Common School Museum is a living museum of American history that provides perspective to a significant time in American educational and cultural life. Visitors learn about the past through hands-on programs that make American history come alive, and help them understand how far America has come in the last 100 years.
American educational history is filled with stories of trials, ingenuity and perseverance. The West Bay Common School Museum brings those lessons to life through exciting and interactive events that allow visitors of all ages to experience the rich tapestry of culture and history that make up the America we know today.
The Museum offers a variety of activities for individuals, families from sceduled classes and group tours to docent talks and special activities.
The Museum classes engage students in local and regional school districts, to foster within themselves a new understanding of history and culture. Currently over 5000 school children a year experience real American history in and indoor and outdoor setting. They participate in a hands-on learning environment, combining history, literacy, spelling, geography. This experience is designed to excite and entice children to want to learn from the past and explore the future.
