Fort Worth South, Inc. (FWSI) is a private, member-funded, non-profit 501(c)(4) development company dedicated to the revitalization of Fort Worth’s Near Southside. FWSI began as a small coalition of Near Southside businesses and community leaders and has grown dramatically over the last decade. Our members and staff are fully dedicated to the district’s continued success, and we always welcome businesses and residents that are interested in joining the team. You’ll find that it’s a fun group and a great cause.
This district’s history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when it was developed as the city’s first streetcar suburb. Today the Near Southside is an eclectic and diverse mixed-use community and the second largest employment center in Tarrant County, with around 30,000 jobs. The economic anchors for the district are the longstanding institutions and industries that continue to prosper. The most renowned economic engine is the Near Southside’s Medical District, home to Tarrant County’s five major hospitals as well as dozens of independent medical clinics. Other types of businesses, including a concentration of creative firms, are now calling the Near Southside home, diversifying the district’s employment base.
An amazing renaissance is underway in the Near Southside, with dozens of restoration and new construction projects transforming the district and attracting new residents and businesses. Visitors from throughout the region come here to visit the area’s acclaimed restaurants and historic landmarks. FWSI is leading the effort to sustain the momentum and create an even brighter future for the Near Southside.
