Description
During the fall of 1996, YFC extended its influence into the urban community by acquiring the Primetime drop-in center, located at 3701 S. Calhoun Street. In 2004, YFC collaborated with four other agencies and renovated the existing center while at the same time adding an additional 18,000 square feet. This expansion not only houses the partnering agencies, it has also established itself as a full-service community center capable of meeting the ever-increasing needs of urban students.
Primetime is strategically located in Fort Wayne's Census Tract 27 and across the street from South Side High School. Only 9 percent of teenagers in this neighborhood will pursue a college education. Seventy-nine percent live below the Department of Housing and Urban Development's definition for poverty, and almost 30 percent of Census Tract 27 teens will leave school each day and return to a household that does not speak English as its primary language.
Drop-in hours are from 3-6 p.m daily with speciality programs every evening except Wednesday. Over 1,000 youth visit the center on a weekly basis.
