Mission Statement

The Voice of the Homeless is a non-profit organization that aims create a platform to which the voice of the homeless may be heard and seeks to minister to those without a home.

Our mission is to promote education and advocacy through public arts projects and collaboration within the community.

"We love because he first loved us." 1 John 4:19

Description

Homelessness, temporary or otherwise, touches everyone--children and youth, people with diplomas and degrees, people with jobs and careers, people with immediate and extended families.

While the the reach of homelessness is wide and diverse, astonishingly only about 1% of philanthropy fundingactually goes towards ending homelessness (nfg.org).

THE SOLUTION:

The Voice of the Homeless, by providing education and advocacy in the community, aims to play a crucial role in influencing policymakers and community stakeholders to initiate housing-based solutions to end homelessness.

We believe that education, advocacy and awareness are a few of the first steps towards the fight to end homelessness.

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

The Voice of the Homeless is seeking eager volunteers and potential leaders to assist us in our growing efforts within the community.

OUR HISTORY:

Jessica Crute founded the organization in Houston, TX on May 24, 2012 in response to her father's struggle with homelessness.

Since 2012, the organization has began to establish partnerships within the community and has used platforms--such as the Voice of the Homeless open journal radio program on 90.1 fm (KPFT) and the billboard art campaign to advocate for those who are without a home.

In 2013, recent collaborative projects include a photography workshop implemented for the homeless at the Bread of Life Inc and audio walking tours featuring the stories of those who are without a home, in conjunction with Hear Our Houston.

This fall, we are excited to announce that the Voice of the Homeless and the Bread of Life Inc. are partnering up to raise money for the Houston homeless through an Art Auction and Fundraiser on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Deborah Colton Gallery. The event seeks to assist those who are without a home by providing service to the homeless community through advocacy, ministry and collaborative outreach efforts in the Houston community.
