Then, Vitas Innovative Hospice Care invites you and your pet to participate in a pet program, by visiting VITAS nursing home patients. Pets provide a renewal of friendship and show unconditional love to hospice patients. Many patients have had to give up their pets and they miss the interaction and devotion. The visits leave behind memories not only of the visit, but also of past experiences. All kinds of pets are invited to join!

Description: VITAS Healtcare is looking for kind caring and caring people to help terminally ill patients and families - just by bieng there at the end of life. 11th-Hour Volunteers should be comfortable around deaith and dying be familiar with te dying process. Most importantly, 11th-Hour Volunteers must be able to meet the unique needs of the patient and family by offering a calming presence. We are especially looking for volunteers available on short notice to provide 2-4 hour shifts. Skills: VITAS Volunteer patient care orientation and the 11th Hour Training is provided free of charge to help you learn the required to be an outstanding hospice volunteer. time and dates are ongoing and flexible.

What does a VITAS Innovative Hospice Care volunteer do? Provide respite (sit with a patient while the caregiver takes a break), friendly visiting to patients and their families at home or in a nursing home, driving a patient or family member to appointments, accompanying a patient to a church function, wedding, beauty shop, play, ballgame, run errands to the grocery store, drug store, post office, make telephone calls to home bound patients and families, make telephone calls to the bereaved, assist with programs and special events.

VITAS wants to enlist your services to care for terminally ill veterans living at home and in nursing homes, assisted living communities and medical centers. VITAS Veteran Volunteers do not need to be U.S. Veterans; you need only the desire to remember; honor and support America's living heroes. VITAS Veteran Volunteers visit terminally ill veterans; drive and/or accompany a veteran to appointments, shopping and other events; help a veteran apply for benefits or learn about available assistance; help replace lost or stolen military medals by contacting appropriate agencies; listen to life stories or record or videotape a veteran's reminiscences; telephone veterans to ask how they are doing; attend or help plan activities celebrating Memorial Day and Veteran's Day; educate veteran's groups about hospice services by speaking at their meetings.

VITAS Volunteers give their time to terminally ill patients and their families in a hospital type setting. Volunteers are needed to: visit with patients and families, serve patients at mealtime, read books out loud to patients or visiting children, write letters or play games with patients and/or families, offer spiritual support, provide friendly support with your certified pet, sing or play music for patients and their families, manage the patient care activity cart and help with administrative duties. The VITAS IPU is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Volunteers generally help by providing support during a 2 to 4-hour shift. VITAS provides free volunteer orientation on how to work with people at the end of life. Volunteers are trained in listening skills, family dynamics and the right words to say to terminally ill patients and their family caregivers.
