Mission Statement

To promote strategic volunteering that has measureable impact through cross-sector collaboration led by the Mayor of Chula Vista.

Description

Launched in March 2011 in partnership with the City of Chula Vista and Cities of Service, Chula Vista Serves promotes high-impact service strategies by engaging residents in volunteer efforts to provide solutions for community needs. Its primary area of focus is education.

The Graduation Works initiative focuses on multiple service strategies to help children learn to read fluently by the end of third grade and to improve graduation outcomes in Chula Vista. Graduation Works consists of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, Third Grade Reads, and the Graduation Coach campaign.

Effective volunteer engagement has also been fostered through Love Your Block, a neighborhood improvement partnership with the Home Depot Foundation, and the Centennial Year of Service, in which residents were challenged to serve through existing and new opportunities. Graduation Works is an extension of the Centennial Year of Service.
