Everyday the Women's Daytime Drop-In Center feeds local unhoused/low income women and their families with hot meals for breakfast and lunch. Our larger meal is for lunch in which we try to provide a meat option and vegetarian option daily. We try to provide variety in these meals as well as prioritize that meals are easy-to serve meals (no soups or over-the-top elaborate meals). We would love for a volunteer with previous cooking experience come into the center in the morning and prepare something to be ready by lunch (11:30). An alternative (especially if the individual has a food handler's license), the volunteer can prepare food at their home and bring it in for us to serve here at the facility. Those with extensive cooking experience or food handler's licenses are preferred to ensure food is safe to serve. We greatly appreciate your interest in feeding those in need.

In order to provide our clients (unhoused & low income women and children) with groceries, we need reliable volunteers to pick-up food from the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB). We schedule appointments with them on a weekly basis. The volunteer needed for this opportunity will be needed every other week. The ability to be flexible would be highly appreciated as some weeks, it is harder for us to get consistent appointments with ACCFB and we may need to schedule in the afternoon as opposed to the usual morning appointment we prefer. The ability to pick-up and load 25-50lbs is important as well as having a relatively spacious vehicle that can reliably transport the food. We will have a training available in which an experienced ACCFB shopper will go with you for your first shift. We provide about 400 grocery bags per month to our clients and are able to do so with the amazing support of our wonderful volunteers! Thank you for your interest in making a difference in our community.

We are looking for a volunteer (or two at a time) to clean the WDDC once a week to ensure we are operating in a clean space to serve our unhoused and low income families with safe food, clean space when assessing their housing needs, and overall healthy environment for us to operate out of. The cleaning a volunteer can provide helps WDDC staff stay focused on tasks that bring clients housing direct support, mental health services, grocery support, and hot meals. Thank you for considering volunteering with WDDC.

Women's Daytime Drop-In Center gives out free breakfast and lunch, groceries and hygiene supplies to unhoused and low income women and children -- Mon - Fri 8:30 - 3:30. We are currently looking for volunteers to do a weekly 2 1/2 - 3 hour shift to serve breakfast, lunch, assemble groceries and hygiene products for our clients that visit our center. This involves greeting them at our hospitality window, getting information, packing meals and groceries and other available items. You may also help us with small projects to help keep our center well stocked and clean. If you prefer more admin and organizing work vs. client interaction, let us know. We ask for a minimum of 10 weeks as it does take about 3 shifts to fully onboard in this volunteer position. No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to serve women and families in need. If you like to prepare meals, do note that in your response to us. You will be asked to wear a mask during your shift and a TB test is required within the first 8 weeks of volunteering Please feel free to email us to join our volunteer family: email staff@womensdropin.org. Also you can fill out our volunteer request form on our website https://www.womensdropin.org/volunteer Or call (510) 548-2884 to speak to our volunteer coordinator We have monthly volunteer orientation zoom calls where you can learn more about our center, your role as a volunteer and how you can serve our community. We will send the link to you in our response.
