To set aside poublic spaces and assist citizens in the protection and enhancement of environmental values, diversity of natural habitats and cultural heritage to guarantee that these reources will be available to both present and future generations. To create and sustain quality facilities and services which off citizens opportunities for recreation, improvement of their physical and mental well being, and enhancement of their quality of life.
Located in western Fairfax County, Ellanor C. Lawrence Park offers a welcome change from high-speed bordering roadways. The natural and cultural history of the area is eveident in every corner of this 600+ acre park. Visitors may spot wild turkey, deer or red fox in the meadow, at Walney Pond or along four miles of meandering trails. The Walney Visitor Center, whose core dates to 1780, features live animal and history exhibits and a hands-on area to introduce the public to the park and the surrounding community's past and present.
Ellanor C. Lawrence Park offers interpretive programming for children, families and adults. Park naturalists also conduct resource managment projects including invasives management, wildlife surveys and habitat restoration.
