Description

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. (NHC) began in 1972 as a single health center in Mt. Auburn, created as part of a Model Cities Program through grant funding. In 1991, the East End Health Center, established in 1968, was able to receive funding as a Federally Qualified Health Center and the Executive Director at that time managed both health centers. In 1999, the board of trustees for both Mt. Auburn Health Center and East End Health Center established that Neighborhood Health Care would serve as one organization to operate both Health Centers. In that same year, the Walnut Hills/ Evanston Health Center, which was operated by Deaconess Hospital, transferred operations to Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. Residents relied heavily on the services provided by the well-established health center, as it was the primary provider of health care for residents of the Walnut Hills and Evanston communities.

Formerly part of the Cincinnati Health Network, NHC was separated from the Network at the request of the Bureau of Primary Health Care in February 2003, creating a standalone grantee with a unique composition.

In 2007 the Walnut Hills/Evanston Health Center relocated to its present, renovated, location on Gilbert Avenue. The renovation included the addition of a state-of-the-art Dental Center.

In 2008 NHC acquired the Babies Milk Fund Clinics. The Norwood and Harrison Health Centers remain free-standing sites in their respective neighborhoods and the site located on Martin Luther King Avenue in Cincinnati was merged with the Walnut Hills/Evanston Health Center due to geographical proximity.

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. now manages five community-based health centers in Greater Cincinnati. They each offer primary care services for pregnant women, children, adolescents, adults, and senior citizens. Dental services are provided; we also offer social services, counseling and mental health services.

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. also operates four school-based health centers within Cincinnati Public Schools: Hughes STEM High School, Rockdale Academy, South Avondale School, and Taft Elementary. We provide comprehensive primary care at these sites.
