Mission Statement
Guided by the artistic vision of Robert Lupone, Bernard Telsey
and William Cantler, MCC Theater brings together exceptional theater
artists to produce works that force us to reexamine the world we live
in through the unique perspectives of extraordinary writers. MCC Theater is
dedicated to discovering and developing challenging, engrossing
theater to present on our main stage, while simultaneously nurturing
the development of the emerging young voices through our literary
and education programs. MCC Theater draws from among the finest actors
and actresses in the world, casting them in roles that challenge
performers and audiences alike. By providing a safe environment
to explore compelling stories, MCC Theater encourages artists to take risks ?
continually stretching their boundaries and working beyond expectations.
Description
When Robert LuPone and Bernard Telsey founded MCC Theater as Manhattan Class Company in 1986, their mission was simple: to bring new theatrical voices to New York audiences. For 19 years, MCC Theater has accomplished this through three interrelated programs. The three-play season committed to New York, American and world premieres has made MCC Theater an Off-Broadway leader and one of the most exciting theaters in Manhattan; the Literary Department actively seeks new and emerging writers in the theater and nurtures their growth with readings, labs and workshops, and the Education & Outreach Department brings theater to New York City Schools, allowing 1,000 students each year to discover their own voices in the arts, find innovative ways to learn and increase literacy.
