Rebuilding Together Riverside builds partnerships within the community to rehabilitate owner-occupied homes, shelters, and nonprofit facilities for low-income residents - particularly the elderly or those with disabilities - at no cost so they may live in warmth, safety, and independence.
Rebuilding Together Riverside is a nonprofit organization mainly serving elderly and disabled homeowners in Riverside County. This is a diverse, qualified team with hundreds of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and advocates who return each year. The organization is governed be a volunteer Board of Directors (no paid staff) with many decades of combined experience with rehabilitating homes in Riverside County. Corporate sponsorships, grant funding, and individual generosity have allowed this program to be cost free to recipients.
The majority of the work performed by Rebuilding Together Riverside has traditionally taken place on our annual nationwide Rebuilding Day, the last Saturday in April. The criteria to participate in the program is that the recipient must be either low-income, elderly, or disabled, owns their home, and will continue to live in the home. Applications are solicited from prospective recipients throughout the year. A Site Selection Committee visits each applicant and reviews their wants and needs, after which a site report is generated. The report is then reviewed by the Board of Directors for consideration. Approved applications are assigned to House Captains who determine what materials, professional trades people, and volunteers are needed to complete the site project. After several months of planning and preparation, the recipients see their wishes come true on annual Rebuilding Day.
