Mission Statement

AASK (Aid to Adoption of Special Kids) is an Arizona non-profit agency with a singular focus on finding relationships for children in the Arizona foster care system to ensure every child has someone who cares.

Description

AASK Mentors change lives because relationships matter. A child or teen in foster care living in a group home often endure a chaotic and transient way of life. A mentor is often the only consistent, caring adult in their lives. A steady support in good times and bad, a mentor is often the only "family" a child in foster care knows. AASK has three locations in the valley and our staff, including bilingual employees, is responsive and available to provide consistent support, resources, and training every step of the way.

Originally, I wasn't sure about volunteering time and the level of dedication that may be needed with the Special Friend mentoring program. However, after getting involved and being matched with my friend, I'm thrilled to have taken the leap. My match couldn't be better, and in addition to feeling good about contributing, I also feel I've personally gained a lot through the experience. AASK is a fantastic organization, and I really can't say enough about the program and the potential to positively impact the lives of children. I only wish I had gotten started sooner, and that more people would make the same leap.

I was very pleased with how informative and thorough training was for the Special Friends program. The creative ideas they gave us in training helped with my first meet with my match. My special friend and I have really enjoyed our time together. I am already looking forward to our next time together. I could not have asked for a better match.
