Mission Statement

The mission of The Children's House at Johns Hopkins is to provide a family-centered, supportive residence for children receiving medical care at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center. It is our purpose to keep families together in the midst of medical crisis, to reduce stress and to promote self-help and mutual support.

Description

The Children's House at Johns Hopkins is a four-level, fifteen bedroom facility located directly across the street from the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The house serves as a warm "home-away-from-home" for families while their children are undergoing treatment at local area hospitals, including The Johns Hopkins Children's Center.

The Children's House, a project of Believe In Tomorrow National Children's Foundation, was established in January 1993. More than 300 companies and 3,000 individual volunteers joined forces to build the house, making the construction much like a modern-day barn raising. The Children's House continues to rely on the support of many individuals and corporations to operate the facility, and as such, exists as a testimony to the true spirit of volunteerism.
