Mission Statement

We save lives through cell therapy. At NMDP (formerly known as Be The Match), we believe each of us holds the key to curing blood cancers and disorders. As a global nonprofit leader in cell therapy, NMDP creates essential connections between researchers and supporters to inspire action and accelerate innovation to find life-saving cures. With the help of blood stem cell donors from the world’s most diverse registry and our extensive network of transplant partners, physicians and caregivers, we’re expanding access to treatment so that every patient can receive their life-saving cell therapy.

Description

For patients with blood cancers like Leukemia and Lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases, a cure exists. We are the world's leading nonprofit organization focused on saving lives through marrow and umbilical cord blood transplantation

When you volunteer with NMDP, you are helping blood cancer and blood disease patients get their cure - a blood stem cell transplant from a matching donor. As a volunteer, you can truly impact the lives of patients and their families. Last year, volunteers gave nearly 125,000 hours of their time. This commitment is vital to the life-saving work at NMDP. By working together, we create a chain reaction of good and positivity in our communities and cultures. Every volunteer opportunity at NMDP helps make a difference.

My instructor, Jessica Hoag, was incredibly sweet, bubbly, and very nice to be around ! It made the whole experience feel a lot more welcoming. Not to mention, we volunteered at a very fun, and entertaining place, so I had a really good time. My only complaint is that there's a lot of information you have to remember, and it takes a bit to get used to, but once you have a bit of script remembered in your head, you should be fine ! Overall, their organization is very professional, helpful and responds quickly without being too over-bearing !! I loved it :3

My nephew was diagnosed with Leukemia (All) and as a patient we attended the walk last year. Very emotional but in my perspective it's a must to volunteer

Tonight is the annual Gala and so I thought I would assist with setting up for the fantastic event. Both staff members and other volunteers were so friendly that this "work" we came to help with, was actually fun. The end result was a beautiful ballroom and lots of great auction items. Good luck and have fun tonight Be The Match crew!!!

Organized jobs with super nice people! I worked as a court marshal, so I did not get to really see the run, but I was there to voulenteer, so I was not too disappointed! I also helped with take down, which worked out fine as well.

I wish the location was more accessible by trimet, since I do not drive and require trimet to get me there and back home.

First volunteer experience was a blast! I really enjoyed myself. I met some really cool and inspirational people. Individuals (both big & small) who will make you appreciate each day and every person given to you. My day was made a little longer as I was initially assigned to one area, but did not complete my day until nearly one hour after I was to be released. This was because I had to assist another area after my area was done. Nevertheless the mission was accomplished!..and I had a ball.
