Mission Statement

E very time a purchase is made in any of the four University of Michigan Friends gift shops, the proceeds go toward supporting patient and family care programs, including amenities, support, and educational programs. These programs often do not receive funding from any other source, including the U-M Health System.

Description

Since 1959, Friends has been a partner of the U-M Health System, helping to promote the health, welfare and education of our community.

Friends is a board-governed, volunteer-staffed, non-profit community organization that administers and manages four Health System Gift Shops. The revenue generated from these shops provide funds for patient programs and educational projects.

If you would enjoy supporting patient programs and health education...if you care about helping people when they need you most...you could be our kind of Friend.

Friends is currently seeking volunteers for their four gift shops.

The Friends Gift Shops of the University of Michigan Health System invite you to join our volunteer team. Our non-profit shops support programs that directly benefit patients and their families.

One 4-hour shift comes with free parking and flexible scheduling. No experience required - we happily train our volunteers.

Since I am still in high school I can only go on the weekends. Most weekends there is not a lot of people in the hospital but I still love it. Since I am below 18 I do the candy cart. I push it from floor to floor selling candy to nurses and patients. I am on my own. I love seeing how excited some of the nurses are to have a little treat throughout the day or the patients are to have a visitor. It is perfect for anyone who loves people and seeing people be happy.
