Mission Statement

Justice Resource Institute pursues the social justice inherent in opening doors to opportunity and independence. Justice Resource Institute directs itself to the challenge of offering hope and promise of fulfillment to children, adults, and families who are at risk of not receiving effective services essential to their safety, progress, and/or survival. At the same time, we seek to work with communities to enhance cooperative initiatives, and mutual understanding and acceptance.

Justice Resource Institute affirms each individual?s right to be treated with dignity and respect, to learn, change and grow and to experience a full and productive life. It is our responsibility to assist the individuals and families we serve to maximize their potential as whole persons and as valued members of their communities. Although our range of services is as varied as those we serve, our approach is uniformly characterized by compassionate support, innovation, and community leadership.

To accomplish its mission, Justice Resource Institute provides well-designed programs employing effective rehabilitative methodologies, supported by managers seeking excellence and by well-trained, compassionate staff. Justice Resource Institute?s treatment, rehabilitative, and advocacy methods are always respectful; never intruding unnecessarily into the privacy of the individuals we serve.

Justice Resource Institute?s twin objectives are excellence in service and advancement of the field.

Description

Metropolitan Treatment Center is a COA accredited and Office of Child Care Services licensed treatment facility for boys. Metropolitan Treatment Center offers a full school for 79 boys with academic credit and GED and SAT preparation; a sophisticated treatment program including group, individual, and family counseling; and a structured residential service that helps boys to develop socially positive and responsible behaviors. A behavior management system supports and encourages behavioral change. Specialized treatment targets specific behaviors that are undesirable and helps the youth to alter his pattern of behavior. Outreach to the family and community resources increases the effectiveness of Metropolitan Treatment Center's work. Metropolitan Treatment Center continues to provide effective education and treatment for adolescents who are troubled and in need of treatment and education in a specialized school.

In 1999, the Metropolitan program, at 58 beds, combined JRI's Boston Treatment and JRI Treatment programs at one site and added 16 desks and beds. This co-location of resources enables a richer blend of therapeutic and educational opportunities. The program employs DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Treatment) and the Prepare Curriculum, which provides distinct modules in anger management, reasoning, and a range of skills essential to pro-social behavioral and psycho-social adjustment.

The program includes a range of "communities" specialized for varying levels. A vital part of the regional network of care, Metropolitan Treatment Center serves as an important resource.
