Mission Statement

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Parent Education Pilot Program promotes success in reducing the number of alcohol and other drug-related fatalities, crashes, and injuries. The goal of the Strengthening Families Program is to increase public education and information to parents and youth. The program addresses the risk and protective factors while building family strengths and fostering resiliency in children. Parents are a powerful mediator of risk for substance use in children. Parents who convey clear expectations regarding substance use, provide and demonstrate consistent limit setting and monitoring are less likely to have adolescents who use drugs. Research indicates that adolescents who feel warmth and support from their parents are less likely to engage in substance use and other risk behaviors.

Description

The project will be implemented in the Bryan County TxDOT District. The counties include: Brazos, Burleson, Freestone, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Walker, and Washington.
