The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Description

Operation Christmas Child, a project of international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan’s Purse, is the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind.

Kids, families, schools, churches, and community groups pack empty shoe boxes with simple items most people take for granted, including toothpaste, toys, and school supplies. The shoe boxes are then delivered to hurting children around the world using whatever means necessary--sea containers, trucks, trains, airplanes, boats, elephants, even dog sleds.

Operation Christmas Child is accomplished by the work of more than 140,000 volunteers in the United States, 500,000 worldwide, and tens of thousands of participating churches.

Operation Christmas Child is a great organization to get involved with on any level, whether volunteering at a collection center during National Collection Week in November, helping out at a year-round event such as the stuffed animal toy drive in the spring or the sandals drive in the summer, or scouring your local store for the best deals on school supplies, hygiene items, and toys to fill a shoe box for a child in need! It is so simple to get involved, but the reward is truly amazing - if you include your address in your shoe box, the child who receives your box might even write you back! My husband and I received 2 letters from a 14-year-old girl in Uganda who received a box from us, and we were so excited to get that kind of follow-up! There are so many opportunities for getting involved with this great organization, so please consider joining us for 2013!
