Mission Statement

Atlanta Mission is transforming, through Christ, the lives of those facing homelessness.

Established in 1938, the ministry provides emergency shelter, residential discipleship, job attainment, and transitional housing to more than 950 homeless men, women and children daily.

Description

Atlanta Mission was established in 1938 as a refuge for homeless and hungry individuals displaced by the Great Depression. Over the years, the Mission has grown from a single shelter in downtown Atlanta to six facilities, which provide emergency food and shelter, residential recovery programs and transitional housing.

Atlanta Mission provides emergency shelter to as many as 342 men, women and children at two separate campuses. Guests of the shelters are provided hot showers, clean clothes, nutritious food and a safe place to sleep.

Atlanta Mission provides residential recovery and transitional housing programs to as many as 720 men, women and women with children. The residential recovery program offers a six to 12-month Christian curriculum with individual and group counseling, life skills training, work therapy and spiritual guidance. The 18-month transitional housing program continues the healing process. Clients live in a supportive, drug-free environment while working or pursuing further education as they transition to independent living.

The Women and Children at My Sister's House are wonderful group of people, and they are really humble. They seem to really want to transition in to a new way of life. It was a blessing to share a evening with them.
