Mission Statement
Parks and Trails New York works to expand, protect and promote a network of parks, trails, and open spaces throughout our state for use and enjoyment by all.
Description
For 30 years Parks & Trails New York has been dedicated to ensuring that all New Yorkers - in cities, suburbs, and rural areas - enjoy close-to-home access to parks, trails and greenways. We helped create more than 1,500 miles of greenways, rail and canal trails, and bike paths, strengthened the parks and trail efforts of more than 250 community groups and municipalities, kept state parks open when threatened with closure, stopped construction of a massive office building adjacent to Niagara Falls and prevented logging in our precious state parks, fought successfully for parks fees to be used for improving and maintaining our parks, advocated successfully for a comprehensive report on challenges facing the park system and for the significant capital investment we are seeing today.
