The mission of The Campus Kitchens Project is to use service as a tool to:
Strengthen Bodies by using existing resources to meet hunger and nutritional needs in our communities;
Empower Minds by providing leadership and service learning opportunities to college students, and educational benefits to adults, seniors, children, and families in need; and
Build Communities by fosterin a new generation of community-minded adults through resourceful and mutually beneficial partnerships among students, social service agencies, businesses and universities.
The idea behind The Campus Kitchens Project (CKP) is simple: We empower students to take a leadership role in fighting hunger and its causes, and break down barriers and stereotypes between the "haves" and "have nots" in their communities.
Our Campus Kitchens currently operate on seven school campuses- campuses that represent a diversity of communities and educational goals, but that also share a basic set of resources that can be found in any community and on any campus.
Each Campus Kitchen is a leadership laboratory built on existing resources, including university kitchens, donated food, and classroom curricula.
Students use this foundation to operate a program that recycles food, then creates and delivers meals to the community, thereby providing clients with financial relief, education, and personal interaction.
This experience, in turn, gives students the opportunity to learn from their communities, practice leadership, and seek out resourceful solutions in every facet of their work.
