I started volunteering with CMC in March 2013, and still continue to date. It's almost a second home to me now! The organization has good values, the staff are supportive and friendly, and the students I work with are wonderful and continue to inspire me every time I teach them.

For those of you who have never volunteered, or those of you who may be a little hesitate to teach reading and writing, this is a great place to get your feet wet helping adults learn an essential tool. At CMC there is always someone there to answer any questions you may have and tons of resources to help you out. The time spent is always rewarding. There is no better experience that seeing someone "get it".

The CMC is a great place to work as a volunteer. The management are great at matching volunteers with students and very supportive. They provide a lot of information about how to handle the lessons, so you don't feel too overwelmed if it's your fist time teaching (as it was for me). If you love to work with people, are enthousiastic and willing to learn as well as teach, this is definitely the right place for you.

This Center actually values it's volunteers! There is a multitude of respect that flows from the Center's management. Holly, Milan & Lynn are true "gentlepeople" who make helping them worthwhile, and rewarding. I had a ball there, and I hoped I helped.

Holly at CMC is very astute at analyzing personality, strengths and weaknesses of both tutors and students, knowing who will work well with whom, and she has now twice matched me perfectly with students I enjoy as people. I love helping them learn and seeing their progress. CMC provides excellent support to volunteers. Both Holly and Milan are always available for questions. They intervene when necessary and strongly affirm both students and volunteers. It is a very positive place to work. This has been my first one-on-one volunteer experience since I retired, and it was a great way to start.

This program is for people who are patient or who are willing to work on their patience. I am/was definitely in the latter category and the experience I received here is priceless. I loved the personal, one-on-one aspect and also appreciated the amount of support I received from the other volunteers and heads of the program. Definitely a fulfilling way to spend your time.

I think the CMC is the most rewarding volunteer opportunity in Las Vegas. I am retired from the Air Force and I do not have a degree but I was given the opportunity to tutor a wonderful student from the middle east learning english and a student who dropped out of high school and is working toward his GED. The rewards are great, I had to use ingenuity, variety and interesting ways to motivate my students. Altho I am just a volunteer I look at it as my job to give my students the best possible information to assist them in learning the english lanquage. There was no specific teaching methods or structured lesson plans, I was left to come up with my own methods and ideas. It was so very rewarding to see my students progress and their excitement and willingness to learn. Regretfully I had to stop volunteering because we are relocating to Salt Lake City. I will be looking for a similar organization when I get there. I was so sorry to have to leave this wonderful organization.

VOLUNTEER Volunteering has giving me the opportunity to give back to our community. The Multicultural Community Center is where I started as a Literacy Tutor. Here you fine a great staff motivated to help you help others improve upon their lives and reach new goals. As a volunteer my life has been enriched every time one of our students overcome a new challenge. When we know better we do better. Volunteer! You can't control outcomes but you can dare to pursue your desires.

I have been volunteering as a tutor for almost three years. As a former teacher, I find it so refreshing to work with motivated adults. My student always makes me feel needed and important. You really can change a life with a few hours a week.

The CMC is a great environment and provides a much needed service, free of charge to the Las Vegas community. I have been a volunteer here for over 1 year now and have had many rewarding experiences teaching adult literacy. And don't worry if you aren't a trained educator, as long as you love to read and are passionate about helping others, this is the place for you. I have made great friends and enjoy my time at the CMC. Please come join us- you will see your hard work make a difference in someone's life.
