Compassion In Action - USA is committed to providing personal advocacy services to our community members who are struggling with a health-related crisis. We will provide assistance to each person until they have received the medical services and disability benefits they are eligible for so that they may live in dignity.
Compassion In Action - USA is a non-profit agency dedicated to assisting low-income, disabled community members in accessing the medical services they need to address a variety of health-related crises.
What We Offer:
Advocacy Provided to the ill or injured who need assistance with Social Security Disability, SSI Disability, and/or Medi-Cal/Medicaid. If other services are needed, referrals will be made to the appropriate agencies.
Disability Workshops Where agencies, support groups and those who have already applied or need to apply for Disability Benefits can learn what is needed to have their claim approved.
Community Forums Where representatives from local government agencies provide information.

Volunteering at this office felt very productive. It was mostly filing and computer work rather than hands on activities but I knew it was for a good cause. The manager of the organization was very flexible as to when to volunteer. I was able to help many by doing small and simple tasks such as calling clients to request forms or by organizing files. I truly recommend checking out this organization as it is very helpful!

I am a current volunteer for Compassion in Action and I work one on one with the current President, Barbara Case. Barbara is dedicated to assisting the individuals who have been referred to her or have asked for her help with applying for and recieving their disability benefits.
My current responsibilities are helping her organize all the essential documents such as social security records, SSI disability records and medical records. Barbara is very patient and works with me at my own pace.
I highly recommend anyone who wants to volunteer, to volunteer for Compassion in Action. It is not only a great organization to be a part of, but provides you with great work experience as well.
Barbara is appreciative of any help that she recieves. One suggestion to prospective volunteers is to contact Barbara by phone if she replies to your request to assist her. It just lets her know that you are still interested in helping.
