Description

According to USAID, only 40% of children in Guatemala finish sixth grade, and the country has the fourth highest rate of chronic malnutrition in the world. Mil Milagros currently partners with six schools and communities to ensure that 1,100 children receive a hot, nutritious lunch each school day, prepared by their mothers and grandmothers - 360 volunteers in total - who are trained how to use local foods to prepare healthy meals. In partnership with the teachers at each school, the children receive educational materials, student leadership workshops, and health and hygiene supplies and care. Nutritional supplements and care are provided to the young children in an effort to prevent the onset of chronic malnutrition.
