Mission Statement

Suffolk County Office for the Aging is pleased to be a part of the CMS MedicareRx Volunteer Initiative to help seniors with Medicare get the assistance they may need. Our trained HIICAP counselors are available to answer questions concerning Medicare, Medicare Advantage programs, Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medigap and other health and long term care insurance. Suffolk County Office for the Aging's HIICAP Program helps seniors and their families with Medicare understand their options and make an informed, meaningful decision about their prescription drug plan options.

Description

The Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) has been established to assist seniors through the maze of health insurance paperwork. Assistance is available with the whole range of health insurance programs including Medicare, Medicaid, Supplemental coverage and Long Term Care Insurance. Suffolk County's HIICAP counselors provide seniors and their families with information, counseling and assistance necessary to acquire, claim and appeal decisions about health insurance coverage. The HIICAP Program provides free, one-on-one assistance to seniors and their families via telephone and face-to-face meetings, public education presentations and other programs.
