Mission Statement

Urban Compass provides a safe, welcoming, and innovative environment that challenges our youth to envision and navigate a course for a rewarding future characterized by achievement, independent thought, and social responsibility through education, mentoring, and play. Urban Compass accomplishes this goal by implementing a series of during and out-of-school activities that introduce participants to positive role models and experiences that foster personal and social enrichment while building an educational foundation that positions them for long-term success.

Description

Urban Compass was formed in partnership with Verbum Dei High School and LA City Camp in 2004. These two well-established organizations have been serving the Southern Los Angeles area for over 50 years combined. The mission of Urban Compass has been created to broaden the highly successful accomplishments of both organizations. Together, we strive to reach the youth of the inner city, show them that a world of possibility for a bright future exists, and inspire and educate them to achieve their dreams. Urban Compass has chosen 112th St. Elementary School to pilot it's program. 112th St. School is located in Watts, Los Angeles in a very poor area. Urban Compass serves students from grades K-5th.
