Mission Statement

Current mission draft, subject to change once board is established:

Mission Statement: The appointed community volunteer Forest Advisory Board (FAB), along with its master plan, will provide information to city departments and commissions on the protection, enhancement, coordinated management, and overall health and diversity of our community forest through research and public input, and will promote the economic, environmental, and social benefits of the community’s forest through education, outreach, and partnerships.

Note: The community forest advisory board is a volunteer board that will advise the Parks and Recreation Commission. All monies received from fund-raising efforts or grants will go to assist in the implementation of the forest management plan and will go back into community forest improvement, maintenance, and the sustaining of our trees and green spaces.

Description

Our city is establishing a community Forest Advisory Board and is seeking people within the area to interview for a volunteer position on the board. Those applying should have a deep interest in sustaining a community forest. A forestry background would be helpful, but not necessarily required.

Board members will be asked to become involved in many aspects of community forest planning, maintenance, and local promotional and fund-raising activities. This will be a hands-on board that will ask volunteers to pledge a three year term of appointment.

Board members will be ambassadors for the community forest and community and be willing to learn, teach, and dedicate themselves to the vision established by the board.
